An easy 5 mile around Bromsgrove. One of my favourite routes. It's a sort of special treat because half of it's flat! That's some achievement in Brosmgrove since the town is surrounded by hilly countryside.

A cold one today with regular running partner Cliff. We chose a local route hoping to avoid frosty, slippery back roads. We were mostly successful!
Off-road is always good when avoiding ice, but obviously mud can be a problem too this time of year. Pepper Woods makes for an excellent half-mile since it has a central well drained soft track running thru it. Shame about Warbage Lane which was mostly OK but with long sections better suited to Torville and Dean....
This route also allows us the dubious pleasure of running up Alfreds Well, a notoriously steep hill with a little twist at the top which is all of 5 metres long but turns up so sharply as to make anyone gasp for air!! Fortunately followed by a gentle off-road downhill past Fockbury Mill Nurseries.
Cold air was definitely a problem today. I'm fascinated by the detrimental effect cold air has on my ability to run at a fast pace. I imagine it's a combination of low oxygen, high water content and low temperature causing your lungs to contract. Hmmm.... I feel some Google research coming on!
What's this blog all about?
You may already know that I'm a keen road runner, and that I ran the Flora London Marathon in 2007 and raised £3300 for Macmillan Cancer Care... this year decided to try once again to get a place in the Flora London Marathon.
In late November I was stunned to receive notification that I had been accepted for a ballot place, a 2008 London Marathon place was now assured.
I created this blog just to keep a record of important (and not so important) events along the way!
